Eartheria & Numento live at Meara Klubi, Pori 7.12.2024

The last Meara Klubi of the year saw three bands on the Winston Live stage: I, Cursed, Numento and Eartheria.
I, Cursed is a death metal/grindcore band formed in 2023 who already have a number of live shows and an EP under their belt.
Numento is a progressive melodic death metal band who express their point of view on psychological matters by introducing us to their fantasy world, their latest album “The Antimatter Fantasy” was released last summer.
Eartheria is an extreme metal band who makes precision, technicality, brutality and atmosphere their foundation, their latest album “Accursed In Sleep” was released last October and this was their first live performance after a 4 year break.
Our reporter Cristina Gregori missed the first band due to an interview, but she was ready to catch the moment with her camera of Numento’s first show ever in Pori and the great return on the stage of Eartheria.

Mustan Kuun Lapset frontman Pete Lehtinen’s second solo single is a dark wave track featuring singer Micko Hell

Pete Lehtinen (born in 1975, lives in Lahti) is a Finnish composer and lyricist. He is known as a frontman of the Finnish dark metal band Mustan Kuun Lapset. Besides to writing most of the material, Lehtinen was a lead singer, rhythm guitarist and studio session keyboardist throughout the band’s 30-year existence.

As Mustan Kuun Lapset defunct in 2023, Lehtinen “retired” from his active music career which started in early ´90s. In the spring of 2024, however, he released new music as a solo artist. Digital single Snowflower was based on the tunes of Lumikukka (from Mustan Kuun Lapset´s fourth album Viimeinen laulu kuolemasta, Stay Heavy Records, 2007), which is one of the most popular songs Pete has written. And like Snowflower, Procession is based on an old Mustan Kuun Lapset song too. Original Saatto (Engl. Procession) from the album of the same name was released in 2017 (Inverse Records).

Listen to the “Procession” single on music services (Spotify, Bandcamp, YouTube, Apple Music, Tidal, Deezer etc:) https://push.fm/fl/petelehtinen-procession

This time, the single also features a guest vocalist. Micko Hell is a singer who was born in 1978, lives in Kerava, and has influenced many Finnish metal bands. Pete and Micko met when they did their civil service in Vaasa 1997. Five years later, in 2002 when Mustan Kuun Lapset released their debut album Suruntuoja (Northern Sound Records), Micko became known to the general public as the vocalist of Denigrate. They released the Taiska cover song Mombasa, which was the theme song for the movie “Menolippu Mombasaan” (Cinemaker Oy). The song like the movie became a big hit. In addition to this, this angelic-voiced man is known for Micko Hell & the Motherfuckers, Million Dollar Beggars, Gloomy Grim (guitars) and many, many more. He has also guested on the records of several bands such as Wintersun and Re-Armed to name a few.

Procession is the first song representing -maybe you could say- dark electronic dance music for Lehtinen & Hell. In fact, all those involved in the production process are experienced mainly in metal music, so this was a big leap into the unknown for everyone.

Procession was recorded by Sami Heinonen (Inferia, Necropsy & Sacrilegious Impalement), and mixed and mastered by studio engineer Pasi Löfgren (Where’s My Bible, Mustan Kuun Lapset). Löfgren also co-produced the single together with Lehtinen. Let’s also mention the nearly ten-year collaboration with Jaakko Tarvainen and Inverse Records. Inverse released all Mustan Kuun Lapset albums and EPs from 2016 to 2023 as well as Pete´s Snowflower single, and now the collaboration continues.

The digital single also includes a short version of the song called Procession (Radio Edit).

Progessive metal prodigy EGRES has released a new single “Retrieval” accompanied with music video

Helsinki-based progressive metal ambassador EGRES has released the highly anticipated single and a music video to it. The five-minute long “Retrieval” explores the impact of memories and remembering on the human perception of the happiness of life lived. It also touches on the concepts of experiencing and remembering selves. The song’s themes and lyrics were visioned by the cinematic composition, where the unconventional structures with semitone progressions grab the listener from the very first beats. This dark, intense piece shows the direction EGRES is heading in.

“It was wonderful to write playful, a little cryptic verses. The lyrics reflect my personal interest towards psychology and draw inspiration from the work of the late Daniel Kahnemann” – Hanna Lahtinen

“Upon hearing the first demo I was horrified by the robotic piano. However, as time went by and the song evolved, I started to feel exalted. Retrieval tells a story which challenges and amazes.” – Tristan Lumme

“The main motifs are this non-stop throbbing rhythm and the sounds of the piano. The guitar solo and the fact that the vocal melody is largely my handiwork are rather exceptional. Retrieval serves as the band’s current trendsetter” – Pekka Virtanen

As the song reached its final form, EGRES saw that the time had come for the band’s first music video. The video illustrates the song’s themes with a story that takes place in different times and places. The idea was originally to make the video on their own, but as time went on the project escalated as more and more people joined the project. The video got a director, cinematographers, a production manager, a cast of actors and a production company Woodpecker, where the band’s bassist Pekka Virtanen also works. The fine-tuning of the screenplay took time and the preparations required a lot of research and acquiring props. The intensive post-production from editing to colour grading and effects creation is a chapter in itself. In the end, Retrieval and its video were finished thanks to a lot of wonderful, talented, dedicated people.

“Making the video was challenging and physical despite being also fun. In the end I was repeating to myself in what have we done?!”  – Tristan Lumme

The newest piece Retrieval delves into the concepts of two selves and the susceptibility of memories. The story behind the song is illustrated via music video, which is the very first from the band.

WATCH Shine music video: https://youtu.be/MphGeT3q9jE

Vocalist-guitarist Viljami Jupiter Wenttola comments:
”“I wanted to write a catchy and unashamedly hopeful and positive song. There’s plenty of darkness out there, so when I have light and beauty in my heart, I try to let it shine through.”

Shine is an affirmation. It’s about reminding yourself that no matter what life throws at you, you have what it takes to make it through. Nothing is out of reach and above all, you had everything you needed inside of you all along. We all need help and support, but in the end they’re there to amplify and show you the light that was within you from the start.
Like the lyrics state: “fix your gaze on any goal, the key is just do as you do.”

Canada’s DREAM HEAVY’s New Single “Survival” ft. Haida Hip Hop Artist Ms.PANIK Warns of An Imminent Apocalyptic Future – New EP Coming 2025

Weaving together ethereal vocals, rich harmonies, and intricate guitar along with violin melodies, Dunster, BC, Canada’s Dream Heavy is a melodic and enchanting world folk metal group. This past June, the band revealed their single “Song In The Dark” while they toured across British Columbia this summer.

With a plan to release their yet-to-be-titled upcoming EP next year, the band is proud to present their latest thought-provoking single “Survival”.

“Survival” (originally titled “Extinction”) was originally written in 2019 and early 2020 as a central theme for Wishbone Theater Productions’ original Stage Play: “The Last Good Valley”, a somewhat macabre and darkly humorous fantasy of a possible imminent apocalyptic future.

The creation of this piece of music took on a life of its own as the production was ironically halted due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.

At the time of the outbreak of the pandemic, Dream Heavy was just in the process of transitioning from playing as the “Samson’s Delilah” duo to the bigger heavier sound of the full band.

Band members were also personally involved in assisting and supporting the Wet’su’weten Hereditary Chiefs and land defenders in their fight against Coastal GasLink and the colonial governments of Canada and British Columbia who were illegally forcing a fracked gas pipeline across their territory.

Considering the lyrical content of the song and the tense decolonization struggles being undertaken by their friends and allies at the time, Dream Heavy enlisted the help of Haida Hip Hop artist Ms.PANIK to write and record the mid-section of the track.

The band comments on “Survival”:

“Survival is both a stark reminder of the dire consequences of unmitigated climate change and a reminder of the still unresolved horrors of colonization. But it also offers a glimmer of hope to the listeners of an end to the “Colonial Apocalypse” and a focus on healing. This is a song that will have audiences dancing for change!”

Listen to “Survival” ft. Ms.PANIK at the following links:

YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFIKX_3J0iI

Spotify – https://spoti.fi/3ZG9HYv

Dream Heavy comes from the ashes of beloved bands like Mamaguroove and Samson’s Delilah and credits their unique sound to a plethora of influences from metal, Latin, Celtic, and other world music traditions. Their music, characterized by its intensity and thought-provoking lyrics, has captivated audiences across Canada and beyond, earning them a place on campus radio Top 10 lists.

Reflecting on the band’s long journey, they share that Dream Heavy‘s sound has evolved from each member’s collective passion for sound, movement, and justice. With their forthcoming EP, they aim to create a sonic and lyrical soundscape that demands to be heard in its entirety—a journey of self-discovery and contemplation. Dream Heavy is recommended for fans of boundary-pushing music in the veins of Porcupine Tree, Kalandra, and Rodrigo y Gabriela.

Alternative metal LUNA KILLS releases single ‘sugar rush’, full-length album in the spring

LUNA KILLS is releasing new music. Earlier this fall, the alternative band signed a recording contract with the American label SharpTone Records, becoming the first Finnish band to do so, and now reveals the release date of their upcoming full-length album: ‘DEATHMATCH’ will be released on April 4th. In October, the band released the explosive single ‘Slay Ur Enemies’, which was featured on BBC Radio 1 and named “freshest track on the scene” of the week by Kerrang! Radio. Now it’s time for the second single from the upcoming album, ‘Sugar rush’, which talks about modern pressures and feelings of inadequacy.

“Sugar Rush is about the pursuit of happiness amidst a recurring sense of uncertainty. The song delves into the constant feeling of inadequacy and delves into the pressures of the world, which demand overachievement and turning everything into money. It ultimately takes away the joy from the passions that used to make life meaningful,” the band muses.

The song’s background can be found in a long struggle with new material on the verge of exhaustion.

“When we started writing Sugar Rush, we had been working on other songs for a long time and felt really exhausted. After several failed attempts to focus, we realized that we had to reset our minds and our attitudes. At the same time, Sugar Rush became a powerful outlet for everything we had been through – a way to channel the exhaustion and frustration amidst the pressures of striving for perfection and constant productivity. The creative process itself became an almost cathartic experience, through which we were able to face these feelings directly and they changed meaningful.”

A music video produced by Guilty Visuals is also available for the new single.

LUNA KILLS has signed an international gig sales deal with the prestigious X-Ray Touring, whose roster includes names such as Machine Head, Within Temptation and Fever 333. LUNA KILLS is now announcing some of their upcoming Finnish shows, and the band will also perform at the prestigious Eurosonic showcase festival in the Netherlands in January.

ANIMA INSIDE New Single / Music Video “Alien” Captures The Essence of Their Evolution In Expanding Their Musical Fusion

Anima Inside, one of South America’s (Ecuadar) most dynamic and boundary-pushing rock bands, returns with their latest single, “Alien”. This track offers a mesmerizing preview of the band’s forthcoming album set to release in 2025. True to their spirit of innovation, the band describes “Alien” as one of their most unique creations. It captures the essence of their evolution—an ever-expanding fusion of styles that remains unmistakably their own.

With its hypnotic blend of influences, “Alien” delivers a fresh and timeless sound. The song features an intricate guitar solo, vibrant rhythmic layers, and an emotive message that resonates deeply with today’s listeners. As the band puts it, “It’s probably the strangest song we’ve ever created, but it has something that makes you want to hear it over and over. The fusion, the solo, the message—it’s very Anima Inside and incredibly current.”

Since their beginnings in 2006, Anima Inside has been known for its ability to blend progressive rock roots with modern, mainstream accessibility. “Alien” encapsulates this evolution perfectly, balancing technical prowess with a raw emotional edge. The song’s themes of alienation and introspection echo the band’s ongoing exploration of the human condition, a recurring motif in their music.

This single marks the next step in a career that has seen Anima Inside perform alongside legends like Ozzy Osbourne, Deep Purple, and KISS, and share stages at major festivals such as Hell and Heaven Fest Mexico and Domination MX. Their sound has always defied easy categorization, weaving elements of progressive rock, Andean rhythms, and Afro-Latin influences into a style that is distinctly their own.

“Alien” is a testament to the band’s commitment to pushing creative boundaries while staying true to their roots. It serves as both a standalone piece of art and a tantalizing introduction to the sonic journey their upcoming album promises to deliver. With its unforgettable hooks, striking instrumentation, and profound lyrics, the track is a perfect reflection of the versatility and artistry that define Anima Inside.

As the band prepares for the release of their next full-length record, “Alien” stands as a bold statement of intent, showcasing their ability to innovate while maintaining the essence of what has made them one of the most recognized names in South American rock. Keep an eye on Anima Inside as they gear up for what promises to be an extraordinary 2025, and don’t miss “Alien” now available on all major streaming platforms.

Next summer’s Hellsinki Metal Festival includes King Diamond, a special Bathory gig, Ill Niño, Decapitated and Napalm Death.

Hellsinki Metal Festival, which has established itself among the metal community in just two years, announced more of its performers for next summer, and the list is quite convincing to read.

The festival, which will be held as usual in the Helsinki Ice Hall area, will now also feature King Diamond, who enjoy cult status in Finland, the Norwegian black metal band Old Man’s Child, who are celebrating their 30th anniversary this year, the Polish death metal pride Decapitated and the British grindcore giant Napalm Death. The foreign guest lineup is rounded out by Ill Niño, one of the most interesting names in the new wave of American nu metal, Fear Factory, which was founded in Los Angeles in 1989, Scandinavian death metal pioneer Dismember and AngelMaker, who play solid deathcore.

Nordis will also host one of the most interesting performances of the coming summer, when the Blood Fire Death – A Tribute to Quorthon and the music of Bathory gig brings together a special lineup consisting of Watain, Aura Noir and Enslaved, among others. There are also some very famous guests who are still being kept secret. The gigs that will be seen at a few festivals next summer will pay tribute to the musical legacy of the late Thomas “Quorthon” Forsberg. Bathory has also been inducted into the Swedish Music Hall of Fame as one of the few heavy metal musicians.

“The show is based on Quorthon’s vision of what he imagined a Bathory concert would be like if it had ever been brought to live stages – 20 years after his death. Quorthon still sends shivers down our spines and twists our brains with his music,” says Eric Danielsson of Watain, who is the lead vocalist of the lineup arriving in Hellsinki Metal Festival.

Other new acts at next year’s Hellsinki Metal Festival include Luna Kills, Night Shall Drape Us, Qwälen, Decessus and Heavy Metal Perse.

Hellsinki Metal Festival has already released the first lineup of its performers for next year, which includes Hatebreed, Enslaved, Landmvrks, Kanonenfieber, Candlemass, Moonsorrow, Forbidden, Marduk, Me and That Man, Warmen, Sigh, Kiuas, Party Cannon, GosT and Alfahanne.

Finnish unique black metal band Noitasapatti released their second studio album Sankarin Matka

Finnish black metal band Noitasapatti released their second studio album ‘Sankarin matka’ on November 29th 2024 via Inverse Records.

LISTEN Sankarin Matka album: https://push.fm/fl/noitasapatti-album

The band comments:
“Sankarin matka” (A Hero’s Journey) is a concept album consisting of an intro and 7 songs. Its dreamlike story slowly advances towards indescribable horrors, which waver between dream and reality, until the truth is exposed in all of its heinousness.

The album has been under making for nearly 2 years in our home studio, and it is finally ready for release despite many set packs

Musically, the album consists of a broad range of sounds, some of which are already familiar to our music, but we’re also bringing a lot of fresh soundscape to this album

Influences and sounds of black metal, british deathdoom and progressive rock can be heard, breaking the boundaries of any particular genre.

The musical influences mixed with our vision form an original whole that sounds only of itself.

New songs are also currently in the making, and they’re taking Noitasapatti’s vision even further!

Sankarin Matka CD ORDERS from HERE

BIOGRAPHY:
NOITASAPATTI was born in spring 2017 in Pori, Finland by Erakko (vocals), Liekkiö (guitars, keyboards), Mielivalta (guitars) and Rampa (bass). Soon after that, Rienaaja joined us as a drummer and the first line-up was complete. After a couple of months of intensive rehearsing and composing, we recorded our first demo, “Vaellamme kuin Taivaankappaleet” on december 2017 and released it on CDr-format spring 2018. First live-show took place in our hometown also in the same spring. After that, Rampa left the band and Erakko began to play bass. Next year we recorded a second demo, “Aarnivalkean ajamana” and played some gigs. In 2020, we made a split-album with another Finnish band HOLLOW CORPSE. After some line-up changes, Häviö came to the band at the end of 2020 and a few months later, Kadonnut also joined the band to play keyboards. In summer 2021, we finally recorded our first full-length album “Kuolemattomille maille”. After a few successful live-shows it was time to record our second full-length album, “Sankarin matka” (A hero’s journey) in summer 2023. Album is now recorded, mixed, and mastered, and we are more satisfied with the result than ever before!

Our music can be described as 1990’s black metal with lots of melodies and even “burzumic” atmosperes. Also, you can hear influences from early British death/doom, epic viking metal and even some old school progressive music. Vocals are quite original “howling” and also heavily Burzum-influenced screams. Lyrics are written in Finnish.
