Groove metal band Nervebreak released their Hopeless Society EP

Helsinki-based Nervebreak‘s second EP Hopeless Society has now been released in its entirety. The dystopian-themed EP explores the emotions evoked by the pandemic, such as frustration, injustice and distancing – themes that are still relevant today.

The songs are composed as a continuation of the previous EP, but they reflect Nervebreak’s development as a band. Compared to their previous release, Nervebreak has brought more groove and heavier elements to their music. However, the band, which started with more straightforward thrash metal, has not forgotten its roots, and a toast to kick off the party is promised this time too.

The singles Better Off, Dead End, Give Me a Break and Slave to the Grind were previewed from the upcoming EP. The entire EP was recorded together with the band’s regular recording and mixing engineer Joel Pöllänen. Mikko Herranen was responsible for the mastering. Mika “Kaasu” Karppinen, known from the band HIM, was involved in the drum recordings, and was responsible for the acoustic sound and tuning of the drum sounds.

The band says that they spent a lot more time this time to achieve a high-quality result:

“The recordings and production process were much tougher compared to making the previous EP, because we decided to clearly raise the bar to the next level. Recording the vocals took a lot of time and they were carefully polished. The guitars were not recorded at home and reamped in the studio, but the amplifiers were taken to the studio, and after finding the magical sound, the recordings were done in a ‘traditional’ style.”

The EP’s lead single is the title track Hopeless Society, which once again showcases the band’s strengths.

“Hopeless Society represents our groovier side. It has a unique, bouncy riff that grabs your attention from the very first bars. This song also has grunge-tinged vocals amidst Nervebreak’s traditional more aggressive screams. This song combines several musical styles,” the band commented.

Founded in 2020, Nervebreak caught the attention of the metal crowd by releasing their Desperate Measures EP in 2022 and performing at Tuska the following summer. The band’s production mixes elements of old-school thrash metal, groove metal and funk. Now, with their new EP, the band is determinedly aiming for the next level.

Nervebreak Release Final Single From Hopeless Society EP – Slave to the Grind, Released Today, Is the Band’s Heaviest Production

Nervebreak, who make groovy and heavy thrash metal, released their fourth single today from their EP, Hopeless Society, which will be released on March 7th. Slave to the Grind represents the band’s heavier side and its unstoppable forward-moving rhythm will make even the most hardened of punks’ heads bob. The heavy rhythm and catchy riffs combined with the raspy vocals give this song its Nervebreak signature.

“I remember listening to a lot of White Zombie around the time I wrote Slave to the Grind. I think you can see that in that basic riff in a good way. There’s something similar, a thrashing but forward-moving vibe to it,” guitarist Lassi Kuusela reflects.

Vocalist Santeri Salmela, who wrote the lyrics for the song, commented: “The first time I heard the preliminary demo of this song, my attention was first drawn to its furious energy. I realized that this song had to have really angry lyrics and vocals. I started writing lyrics about real, infuriating situations in my life, such as my former day job, or actually my then-predecessor! I got to break down the injustices and the end result was a really authentic groove.”

From the upcoming EP have been relesed so far the singles Better Off, Dead End and Give Me a Break. Slave to the Grind has also been recorded together with the band’s regular recording and mixing engineer Joel Pöllänen. Mikko Herranen was responsible for the mastering.

Finnish thrash metaller Nervebreak released the third single from their upcoming EP

Formed in 2020, Nervebreak caught the attention of the metal community with the release of their “Desperate Measures” EP in 2022 and a performance at Tuska the following summer. The band’s production mixes elements of old-school thrash metal, groove metal and funk.

The band is currently preparing for their “Hopeless Society” EP, which will be released on March 7th, and has so far released the singles “Better Off” and “Dead End”. The EP’s third single, “Give Me a Break”, represents Nervebreak’s grooviest and most aggressive side. The song starts with a fiercely forward-pedaling riff, around which the entire song is built.

“One day I picked up my guitar and the intro riff was the first thing that came out of the guitar. The riff is playful and a very groovy Nervebreak piece was built on it!”, guitarist Lassi Kuusela commented.

“Give Me a Break” was recorded together with the band’s regular recording and mixing engineer Joel Pöllänen. Mikko Herranen was responsible for the mastering.

The lyrics of the song are the domain of the band’s soloist. Nervebreak’s singer Santeri Salmela says that the inspiration for the song arose after a poorly played gig.

“We recently played a gig with my previous band absolutely horribly and, of course, people patted us on the back after the gig to praise the performance. Of course, everyone meant well, but I just thought in my head, ‘give me a break’. This inspired me to write the lyrics for the song – a little tongue in cheek, of course.”
