Järvenpää-based modern metal band Ode Of Disgrace, formed in 2011, has continued to forge new material alongside their live performances throughout 2026. The band’s latest release, Chronus, takes the listener in a heavier direction than their previous material. The massive sound of Chronus is further reinforced by tuning the instruments even lower than usual.

Lyrically, the main themes of Chronus are time, as well as its dimensionality and inevitability. Echoes of the themes explored in the lyrics can be heard in the sorrowful, distant melodies, as well as in the verse and breakdown riffs that at times grow into furiously pulsating beat. Despite its epic nature, the powerful chorus speaks of despair and a sense of finality, foreshadowing an existential crisis.

Chronus takes its name from the personification of time in Greek mythology. The song is among the first compositions written for the band by guitarist Valtteri Rautanen, who joined Ode Of Disgrace in 2025.

Ode Of Disgrace’s previous release, EP called Under Grey Skies, was released in 2025. Prior to that came the 2022 ORBIS EP, alongside which the band has also released several standalone singles. Over the years, the band has remained faithful to its metalcore-influenced sound while developing its music in a more modern and distinctive direction, without ever letting go of its hard-hitting riffing.

Ode Of Disgrace, who released their most successful single, Omen, in early autumn, are now loading the Under Grey Skies EP, which leaves little room for doubt. The Finnish band, which has made a new turn, operates in the realm of metal, sprinkling in catchy melodies, which are also present on the Annihilation single from the EP. However, now they are diving deep in terms of both lyrics and sounds.

“Annihilation is a story about cynicism towards humanity and its inevitable fate: everything comes to an end and we deserve every single trial that this cataclysm brings as the world plunges towards destruction,” the band says.

If Ode Of Disgrace’s previous ORBIS EP was ultimately full of hope and light, such sourness has indeed been left behind, and the whole is complemented by sounds that support the thematics of the new single.

“Annihilation is thematically almost the complete opposite of the ORBIS EP, and musically it represents the band at its heaviest with its death metal-like riffs and crushing breakdown that tramples the listener to the core.”

With the release of the EP, the band is also heading to gigs, the next of which will be at Vantaa’s Skenesal on November 22nd. The evening will also feature Kneel Before The Death and Hollowborn. More information and tickets are now available here.
