Smash Into Pieces to Melodifestivalen’s Saturday final with Heroes single – “The third time is true!”

Smash Into Pieces are heading towards the final of Sweden’s biggest music event Melodifestivalen on Saturday with their song Hollow.

Heroes, who have been ranked straight from the semi-final to the final, continue Smash Into Pieces’ strong, even dystopian, modern world theme. The band has also been seen in the Melodifestivalen for Eurovision before: first in 2023 with their song Six Feet Under, which became one of the most played songs of the year in Sweden, and the following year the band was in the final with their song Heroes Are Calling, which dominated the band’s domestic playlists for weeks.

“Now it’s happening – the third time is true. Everything is in the game. Eurovision or nothing,” is how the band describes their feelings this year.

With over a billion streams in their career, Smash Into Pieces has become one of Sweden’s most successful rock exports, and the band has been seen live in the United States, Australia and Asia in addition to Europe.

Founded in 2008, the band’s own universe is centered around masked drummer APOC – a character who has become a central part of the band’s storytelling and visual identity. This is also the case with the Hollow video.

“Hollow is about how we are slowly losing ourselves in a digitalized world. We are connected to the world, but disconnected from ourselves,” says guitarist-songwriter Benjamin Jennebo.

Smash Into Pieces’ competition song moves between personal and existential themes, raising questions about identity and human dignity in a digital age where the pace is accelerating and the noise never stops.

“It’s not a sermon, but a reflection. A story about what it feels like to get lost in a rapidly changing world and try to reconnect with what is real.”
