Paz Manera- Superbreakout

“Superbreakout” is the debut album of the Italian trio Paz Manera, released last April via AW Recordings, it contains 10 tracks ranging in the various sub-genres of rock.

The first track called as the album is an energetic rock song and I really like the change of rhythm in it. “The dancer” is the first single released and the protagonists are the powerful voice and the catchy melody.

The rhythm slows down with “Island”, the most pop song in the album, the sound slides slightly leaving a sweet embrace along the shoulders. In “Addicted girl” the intro is almost mystic, then it changes in an explosion of rock and the voice sounds more agressive.

“The wanderer” closes the album with its 8 minutes, long songs risk to be boring and repetitive, but that is not the case because everything works perfectly.

This album is a journey into the various shades of rock, particularly it will strike 70’s and 80’s rock lovers, every song is a surprise.
Guitar, bass and drums work harmoniously in each song but the difference is done by the voice that is never foregone.

Paz Manera did a great debut and I’m curious to see what’s going to happen in the future.

Altjira – Anent Wist

Italian Altjira surprises with its first Ep ”Anent Wist” released last January. The album, which lasts nearly 29 minutes, contains 7 tracks including intro, outro and a cover.

The whispered intro creates atmosphere and get the listener, which doesn’t know what to expect from the next track, curious.

“I Will Not Bend”, the best track in my opinion, has a powerful but still personal sound and with it the listener is able to understund what’s the band is made of.

With its bad ass riff “The Chase” is another good work, interesting is also the epic/heroic theme in the lyrics.
The last track before the outro is a tribute to Iced Earth with the song  “Dracula”, so if you listen to Iced Earth you will enjoy it.

This album is a blast of heavy metal mixed up with thrash and a lot of musical technique, I love the voice because it has a powerful and scratching sound, and lyrics are inspired by narrative, mythology and legends that makes it really interesting.
The artwork, by Federico Musetti, is made in relation to the text of each song but still it doesn’t reveal anything about the music.

This is definitely a good debut, surely they still have to work on, but the base is excellentand and I’m sure we will hear from this band again in the future.

Meshuggah-The Violent Sleep of Reason

Meshuggah is back with its 8th album, “The violent sleep of reason”, released last October via Nuclear Blast.
Countercurrent the choice to record the album live in the studio, simultaneously with all members, I have to say it works perfectly.
The opener track “Clockworks” is one of the most violent in the album, with its 7:15 minutes takes the listener through a devastating and powerful journey.
“MonstroCity” has a devastating riff , the central part is very interesting with that injection of melody. The best guitar solo is absolutely in “Ivory Tower”.
The album’s lyrical themes are mostly on terrorism, extremist views on ideals and religious dogma.
On the threshold of the 30-year of career the band, even keeping the same line, has produced an impeccable album which can be easily appreciated by the extreme metal lovers.
