Inspired by the Greek myth of Apollo and Daphne, “River, River” tells the story of a nymph who, desperate to escape the god Apollo’s relentless pursuit, begs her father, the river god Peneus, to save her by transforming her into a laurel tree.
Told through Daphne’s eyes, “River, River” is a tale of transformation and rebirth, of resilience in the face of oppression, and of a soul that chooses to become something else rather than surrender.
Her metamorphosis becomes an act of survival: a desperate escape from a fate she refuses to accept.
Among visions of the ancient underworld and mythological Greco-Roman suggestions, Asphodelia forge a dark symphonic metal where cinematic orchestras, haunting choirs and Mediterranean echoes collide with the power of modern metal.
Hailing from Foggia, Italy, the band explores the thin line between life and death, time and decay, light and shadow — transforming existential themes into an intense, emotional journey.
Their debut album Welcome Apocalypse (Mighty Music, 2018) marked their entry into the international metal scene, earning praise from major European media including Legacy (DE), Sweden Rock (SE) and Metalized (DK).
After many international tours and festivals, joining three editions of the Female Metal Voices Tour, sharing stages with Sirenia, The Agonist, Cellar Darling, Butcher Babies, Kobra and the Lotus, Leaves’ Eyes, Tarja, Apocalyptica and more.
Asphodelia are now shaping their next chapter: “Unfairy Tales”, their sophomore studio album, out on November 13th 2026 via Kraempus Records.
