Boneyard Lily continues its series of single releases leading up to the Tear Grinder EP with a new track, Friends After Dark, following their debut single You Never Died. The first release has garnered significant streams, especially in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Germany, and Italy, exceeding the band’s expectations.
The new song is darker and more intimate in tone. It draws inspiration from 1990s indie and alternative rock, particularly the melancholic and cinematic sound of Suede. The lyrics were inspired by the film Let Me In, a quiet and visually intense vampire drama based on John Ajvide Lindqvist’s acclaimed novel Let the Right One In (Låt den rätte komma in). The film’s haunting atmosphere played a key role in shaping the song’s emotional and sonic landscape.
The track features rising artist pinjasofia as a guest vocalist, adding a honeyed sense of comfort and sensuality to the song’s raw emotional core. Friends After Dark feels like a soundtrack piece made for the inevitably darkening autumn.
