Alternative band LUNA KILLS’ incredible year of gigs continues – More domestic gigs and European tour

LUNA KILLS is making a huge splash on the international music scene. The band, signed to SharpTone Records, released their global debut album DEATHMATCH in April, and the reception has been overwhelming – the single love u was playlisted on Finnish radio, the music video for the WAVES single was placed on the Italian MTV charts and the hit slay ur enemies has garnered radio play on BBC Radio 1. The album immediately took the band from Kuopio to their own club gigs in Europe, and now there is enough demand: Australian metalcore giant Northlane has announced that they want LUNA KILLS as support at their own gigs.

“We are really happy and grateful for this invitation – of course we will go to the gig if Northlane invites us! We also have a performance at the Mystic Festival in Poland before these support shows, so the summer and festival season are now getting off to a great start,” says the band’s singer Lotta Ruutiainen.

After the summer shows, LUNA KILLS is pleased to announce that the DEATHMATCH album tour will continue in Finland in the fall – tickets for the shows are on sale now. Europe is also calling again at the end of the year: the band will head to Oslo in September for the by:Larm festival and then go on a European tour with Bloodred Hourglass in October.

LUNA KILLS & Awake Again live at Monttu New Level, Pori (Finland) 17.4.2025

Last Thursday at Monttu New Level in Pori two bands made the audience jump and sweat with their performances. The first to take the stage were Awake Again, a four-piece post-hardcore band that fearlessly blends metal and pop elements into their music. The band with its wild stage presence, melodies and the right amount of heaviness won over the audience from the first notes. The back and forth with the audience spiced up with jokes made the show even more entertaining. The singer’s vocal versatility was highly appreciated, someone from the audience shouted “this guy has an amazing voice”.
And now it’s time for LUNA KILLS, the most innovative modern metal band on the scene, combining alternative and nu-metal vibes with electronics inspired by video game soundtracks. The band led by frontwoman Lotta Ruutiainen, with her incredible fry scream voice, managed to put on an energetic and intense show thanks also to the use of lights that made the show more cinematic. Apart from some technical problems with the bass, the show was flawless. The band made the audience jump, wave their arms to the beat and sing along.

Alternative band LUNA KILLS’ long-awaited DEATHMATCH album released and promo tour begins

Alternative metal band LUNA KILLS long-awaited DEATHMATCH LP has now been released. The band from Kuopio was the first Finnish artist to sign a record deal with the American label SharpTone Records, and their music, which is tinged with nu metal and electronic elements, has been in high demand. The singles, which have garnered a lot of radio play both in Finland and abroad, can now be found on the album containing ten songs, the lead single of which is the album’s raucous opening track love u.

“The song came about really quickly – in just a couple of days. The inspiration came from somewhere between anime soundtracks and rage and came from unwanted opinions about what kind of band LUNA KILLS should be – and lo and behold, love u was born,” recalls singer Lotta Ruutiainen.

“Love u was the first song we wrote for the DEATHMATCH album, and it became a kind of trend setter for the entire album. The title and intro of the song may give the listener a misleading impression, but it quickly becomes clear that the song is not what it seems at first – it takes you on a journey and hits you right in the face. The lyrics deal with controlling, obsessive behavior towards someone and delusional, toxic love that has never been reciprocated in any way.”

A stylish music video for the song Love u is now available to watch. The band sends their thanks to Bar Lasku in Kuopio for the wonderful filming location.

“The music video was inspired by when you downloaded a movie from Limewire as a teenager, but got something completely different with subtitles in the wrong language and 100 Trojans on top of it. The ILOVEU virus is also the world’s most famous computer virus spread by email, so this was a good time to use it for the theme of the song Love u,” says Lotta.

The DEATHMATCH album is the international debut of LUNA KILLS, which has already garnered excellent reviews and a lot of attention from around the world before its release.

“DEATHMATCH is a powerful collection of sensitivity and aggression, which together reflect the chaos of the mind with piercing honesty. The songs on the album largely deal with themes of mental health and the desire for escapism,” the band describes.

Alternative band LUNA KILLS: Nu metal-inspired LEECH single pounding alongside a dark story

LUNA KILLS release the third single from their upcoming album “DEATHMATCH”. The album, which will be released via SharpTone Records on April 4th, has already featured the single “Slay Ur Enemies” and “Sugar Rush”. The new “LEECH” clearly follows in the footsteps of nu metal and tells of a dark inner battle.

“LEECH is a raw description of suicide and the fight against depression. The song reflects the painful situation where you realize that fear and self-loathing are starting to become part of your identity and it is impossible to separate them. Even though the subject of the song is dark, the song itself was created in a really good atmosphere and in a lighthearted way. It was one of the last songs written for the upcoming album, and it hit us all right away,” describes singer Lotta Ruutiainen.

music video for “LEECH” has also been released. The new single can be heard live this Thursday at the prestigious ESNS/Eurosonic showcase festival in the Netherlands, where LUNA KILLS has been invited to perform. Following the DEATHMATCH album release tour in Finland this spring, the band will also be performing at numerous summer festivals, the first of which is Poland’s largest metal festival, Mystic Festival.

Alternative metal LUNA KILLS releases single ‘sugar rush’, full-length album in the spring

LUNA KILLS is releasing new music. Earlier this fall, the alternative band signed a recording contract with the American label SharpTone Records, becoming the first Finnish band to do so, and now reveals the release date of their upcoming full-length album: ‘DEATHMATCH’ will be released on April 4th. In October, the band released the explosive single ‘Slay Ur Enemies’, which was featured on BBC Radio 1 and named “freshest track on the scene” of the week by Kerrang! Radio. Now it’s time for the second single from the upcoming album, ‘Sugar rush’, which talks about modern pressures and feelings of inadequacy.

“Sugar Rush is about the pursuit of happiness amidst a recurring sense of uncertainty. The song delves into the constant feeling of inadequacy and delves into the pressures of the world, which demand overachievement and turning everything into money. It ultimately takes away the joy from the passions that used to make life meaningful,” the band muses.

The song’s background can be found in a long struggle with new material on the verge of exhaustion.

“When we started writing Sugar Rush, we had been working on other songs for a long time and felt really exhausted. After several failed attempts to focus, we realized that we had to reset our minds and our attitudes. At the same time, Sugar Rush became a powerful outlet for everything we had been through – a way to channel the exhaustion and frustration amidst the pressures of striving for perfection and constant productivity. The creative process itself became an almost cathartic experience, through which we were able to face these feelings directly and they changed meaningful.”

A music video produced by Guilty Visuals is also available for the new single.

LUNA KILLS has signed an international gig sales deal with the prestigious X-Ray Touring, whose roster includes names such as Machine Head, Within Temptation and Fever 333. LUNA KILLS is now announcing some of their upcoming Finnish shows, and the band will also perform at the prestigious Eurosonic showcase festival in the Netherlands in January.

LUNA KILLS: Worldwide recording deal with SharpTone Records, new single and video released

LUNA KILLS is the first Finnish band to sign a worldwide recording contract with the American SharpTone Records. The record company works with top names in metalcore and alternative metal, whose includes Make Them Suffer, Polaris, Loathe, Don Broco and now also LUNA KILLS.

“It’s great to be able to announce our recording contract with SharpTone Records! They purposefully support the individuality of artists, both musically and stylistically, and that fits perfectly with our way of thinking. It’s cool to be able to start a new era with them”, commented LUNA KILLS.

The powerful new single “Slay ur enemies” is now being released through SharpTone Records, which in the band’s characteristic style combines dark experiences with wild energy. The single was mixed and mastered by Jeff Dunne (Make Them Suffer, Knocked Loose, Ice Nine Kills, Disturbed).

“The song describes the inner dialogue and feelings during a panic attack. As a rule, the text illustrates the inconsolability of the feelings, but also the will to fight and the attempt to endure the nightmare in question and get through it,” describes the band’s singer Lotta Ruutiainen.

The music video for the song was produced by Guilty Visuals.

“The music video combines the song’s lyrical theme of panic, anxiety and the related inner dialogue and stays true to the band’s characteristic nu-metal/y2k aesthetic. The video tried to create the feeling of being captured with tight cuts, angles and shooting props.”

LUNA KILLS will be touring around Finland in the fall:

2.10. Olympia, Tampere (Lost In Music: Stereo Terror DJ’s, Atlas, LUNA KILLS)
4.10. Lutakko, Jyväskylä (Moon Shot, LUNA KILLS)
