The Band Comments:
“”Pahat Veräjät’ is the third and final single before the release of the ‘Vitruvian Rays’
album. The song is both a departure from the band’s usual modus operandi, as it is sung
in Finnish, as well as a return to the roots, featuring long atmospheric passages with
progressive chord structures. As the song kicks off with ultra-fast blast beats, there is a
definite nod towards extreme metal as well. ‘Pahat Veräjät’ (‘The Bad Gates’ in english)
references the gates of Tuonela, the cold underworld of Finnish mythology. It tells the
story of a journey through the wilderness between the living and the dead, asking the
listener if a life’s worth can (or should) be measured in wealth, as all material possession
will eventually be left behind”

Sargassus released the second single ‘The Lone Idunn Grows in Shade’ from their upcoming debut album – ‘Spirit of Gravity’ drum playthrough also out

Finnish progressive death metal band Sargassus is set to release their debut album ‘Vitruvian Rays’, out in June 13th 2025 via Inverse Records. The second single ‘The Lone Idunn Grows in Shade’ is out now with a lyric video.

LISTEN to the single on streaming services: https://push.fm/fl/sargassus-idunn

‘The Lone Idunn Grows in Shade’ is one of the earliest songs written for the upcoming album. It displays the meditative side of Sargassus’ music, with droning riffs and repetitive motifs with an underlying sense of angst and unease. The song deals with themes of change, rationality and spiritual growth amidst life-changing revelations.

The song’s lyrics tell a story of a priest finding a religion outside of his own faith. While  confronting this new, opposing yet strangely similar worldview, he remains unmoved, but his rationality ends up poisoning his faith, leaving him spiraling. The song is a critique of those individuals who turn to wrath in the face of opposition rather than examining their own shortcomings.

The Band Comments:
“‘The Lone Idunn Grows in Shade’ is one of those songs that underwent barely any changes since its inception. We are very pleased with the song, as it has it all: dissonance, atmosphere and aggression, all being carried by a dynamic flow throughout the song. Halfway to the song, there’s also Rokio’s brainchild for all the prog fans out there. This one’s bound to be one of Sargassus’ most impactful live songs!”

The band also released an official DRUM playthrough video of their first single Spirit of Gravity.Let us introduce to you: not gravity blast but “spirit of gravity”-blast! Real take with real audio, of course. The drum playthrough filmed, edited and mixed by Joona Muistola at HAW Studios.”

Finnish Sargassus released a modern black metal single & music video ‘Spirit of Gravity’ – the track is taken from the upcoming debut album

Finnish progressive death metal band Sargassus is set to release their debut album ‘Vitruvian Rays’, out in June 2025 via Inverse Records. The first single ‘Spirit of Gravity’ is unleashed today.

‘Spirit of Gravity’ is a relentless onslaught on the listener that introduces both
the fresh sound of the band as well as their new bass player Mertta Halonen.
Being perhaps Sargassus’ heaviest song to date, it features aggressive blast
beats and wailing tremolo riffs ornate with shrieks and guttural growls, much
like in some modern black metal songs.

The song was initially formed around the peculiar blast beat that starts the
song. Later the bunch worked all together on the song, refining it into what
you’ll now know as ‘Spirit of Gravity’. Once the song felt complete enough, it
was time to pen fitting lyrics. The chaotic nature of the song demanded the
listener’s attention, so it only made sense to write the lyrics from the point of
view of a rabidly preaching ritualist. With bass parts being composed last, they managed to highlight some groovier elements that can be found in Sargassus’ earlier works. The end result is something familiar, yet superlative.

Thematically ‘Spirit of Gravity’ centers around themes of rebirth, Nietzschean
philosophy and conformity. The lyrics are structured like an occult ritual of
renewal, where the participants ingest poisons to break free from a circular
existence, but in typical Sargassus fashion the ritual is likened to a wildly
inebriated communion. Structure and sincere practices are mirrored with
chaos and natural human perversion, masking philosophical ponderings about the eternal recurrence and life’s immanent worth.

The band comments:
” ‘Spirit of Gravity’ is no doubt Sargassus’ heaviest song to date. While the song might showcase clear modern black metal influences, it is not without groovier and eerily calming passages. The chaotic nature of the song may partly reflect the whims of the band itself, but this oppressing feeling is also a key theme on the rest of the upcoming album. ‘Spirit of Gravity’ tells the story of an ecstatic ritual in occult fashion, while reflecting on philosophical aspects of eternal recurrence and life’s immanent worth.”
