Michael Monroe – One Man Gang

Renowned worldwide for his work with the iconic Hanoi Rocks, Michael Monroe might be one of the last true rockstars, one that lives and breathes rock ‘n’ roll no matter what is happening out there so it’s a pleasure to see him back with the exciting new album “One Man Gang”. 

Featuring Captain Sensible of The Damned, the title track gets the party started with a rebellious attitude and an overload of positive energy perfectly expressed by the super catchy chorus and the badass guitar licks. 

Paying homage to Japan, one of Michael’s favorite countries, “Last Train To Tokyo” has softer vibes due to the melancholic tonalities of the guitar work yet the rhythmic ensemble ensures plenty of catchy rock dynamics emphasized by the true rocker vocal delivery. 

From beginning to end “Junk Planet” is full of passionate sleazy rock guitar riffs generating memorable grooves with the lovely addition of dazzling harmonica melodies and another electrifying vocal performance. 

“The Pitfalls Of Being An Outsider” throws in the mix a bit of sheer nostalgia and Michael’s voice perfectly depicts the outsider figure channeling intense emotions through the explosive guitar driven grooves. 

“Hollywood Paranoia” holds a gritty rock essence certainly amplified by the inflamed vocals and once again groovy guitars never fail to keep you entertained shifting from bold riffage to the glamorous melodic elements of the solo. 

“Helsinki Shakedown” has some mellow melancholic moments especially evident in the bittersweet vocal harmonies and the smooth guitar melodies yet the rock ‘n’ roll dream is still alive on the sing along chorus. 

The addictive track “Low Life In High Places” is a great way to close the album with a mix of nostalgia and a vibrant rocker spirit as Michael’s vocals naturally channel wistful feelings following a charming harmonious rhythm enriched by the flamboyant soloing and the cello melodies courtesy of Eicca Toppinen of Apocalyptica. 

As we all know Michael Monroe has always been a charismatic vocalist in fact on the latest release “One Man Gang” he pours his heart out with sincere passion and evident energy to create an entertaining collection of authentic rock ‘n’ roll songs. 

Hour Of Penance – Misotheism

Italian extreme metal veterans Hour Of Penance are known for their brutal technical approach and now they reach a new crucial milestone releasing the eighth full length “Misotheism”. 

“Blight And Conquer” immediately showcases the obscure nature of the album with the arcane tonalities of the intense lead guitar work and the insane death metal elements fully come to life through the relentless and meticulous rhythmic section. 

“Fallen From Ivory Towers” offers some tasteful melodic guitar progressions adding diversity and dramatic depth in the midst of the dense at times asphyxiating rhythmic patterns enhanced by the technical work and the diabolical growls. 

“The Second Babel” aims to grab your attention with the slightly melodic twists of the stellar guitar work while maintaining a rather hostile death metal essence with breakneck speed and ruthless riffage.

Red Death – Sickness Divine

Crossover thrashers Red Death promise to trigger instant headbanging delivering all kinds of insane grooves on the third full length “Sickness Divine”. 

The title track is extremely enjoyable and marks a rather somber beginning as mellow sorrowful arpeggios build a suspenseful mood to introduce an overload of familiar heavier thrash dynamics with crunchy riffs and a terrific guitar solo. 

“Face The Pain” focuses on an impactful approach immediately unleashing ravenous rhythmic patterns and bold rebellious screams while the lead guitar adds sharp variations to the no frills heavy core. 

On  “Path Of Discipline” the rhythmic section aims to create a constant menacing groove with a faster old school thrash momentum while guitars will grab your attention with impeccable venomous leads.

Ison is a particularly intriguing new project started by the talented multiinstrumentalist Daniel Änghede of Crippled Black Phoenix and vocalist Heike Langhans of Draconian and the debut full length “Inner – Space” invites you to join them on a fascinating cosmic journey.

The title track takes you far away, maybe to an astral plane or even another galaxy, with the cinematic approach featuring tasteful multilayered arrangements and lovely guitar harmonies that evoke a rare sense of tranquility surrounding Heike’s absolutely spellbinding voice. 

The striking emotional duet with guest vocalist Neige of Alcest is the highlight of “Radiance” which feels aptly luminous like a distant nostalgic memory that you keep trying to hold close to your heart as it flows through the delicate melancholic maze of atmospheric ensemble and soothing guitar melodies.  

“Equals” is made of dreams and pale lights as the enchanting atmospheric arrangements and Heike’s gentle vocals surround you and keep you warm while the slow burning guitar melodies seem to spread an intense cosmic energy. 

On “The Fifth World” Heike’s celestial vocal harmonies guide you through a spacey journey surrounded by the ethereal tonalities and the profound melancholy of the lavish atmospheric synths channeling a dreamy shoegaze inspiration.

“Les Jardins De Minuit” lies in a limbo between darkness and light as it begins with the understated beauty of melancholic guitars and ethereal vocals that will naturally embrace an irresistible blackened essence reminiscing of the band’s earlier discography in fact the wilder riffage and the tormented growls fit perfectly within the song’s cosmic vision.

Italian black metal warlocks Darkend have crafted a new arcane ritual symbolized by the latest dark offering “Spiritual Resonance” which will inevitably spread pure esoteric energy.

Une Misère – Sermon

Emerging from the burgeoning Icelandic metal scene Une Misère aim to grab your attention with an interesting mixture of violent grooves and darkened emotions on the debut album “Sermon”.

Boston based band Bent Knee is an incredible creative collective in fact it’s not surprising to see that the new album “You Know What They Mean” is ready to deliver all kinds of mind bending soundscapes with a particularly versatile songwriting approach. 

“Bone Rage” will hit you in the face with a turbulent instrumental ensemble revolving around acidic guitar riffs and unusual rhythmic progressions but vocalist Courtney Swain is certainly the star of the show demonstrating a striking vocal range. 

“Give Us The Gold” is rather entertaining with a groovy upbeat rhythm that channels positive energy and makes you want to jump but the moody guitar melodies can also create introspective moments emphasized by emotive vocals. 

Just listening to Courtney’s otherworldly vocals “Hold Me In” will quickly become a favorite as the whole instrumentation effortlessly shifts from catchy rock elements to spellbinding melodic passages through futuristic atmospheric waves.

The occult spirit of “Novis Orbis Terrarum Ordinis” is palpable in every song yet Year Of The Goat often manage to step out of such obscure sonic realm to successfully create catchy music and delightful melodic tapestries that any listener could truly appreciate. 

Insomnium – Heart Like A Grave

There has been a major buzz around the long awaited new record “Heart Like A Grave” and Finnish melodic death metal purveyors Insomnium continue to evoke the irresistible melancholy that garnered so much attention on their previous releases.

Staying true to Insomnium’s signature style the beginning of “Valediction” is characterized by sharp guitar driven grooves with a prominent death metal spirit that will later embrace gloomy atmospheric arrangements and spellbinding darkened melodies carefully crafted by the refined guitar work.
