Finnish progressive death/post-metal metal band Ashes In The Fall released their debut EP ‘Where Serenity Prevails’ on 21 March 2025 via Inverse Records. The band was formed in 2019, and all members are between 17 and 18 years old.

The band comments:
” “Where Serenity Prevails” is our debut EP about the destruction of humanity and the Earth after it. The EP features acoustic sections and clean vocals as well as distorted sections and harsh vocals, polyphonic vocal harmonies and shifting time signatures. Jazz influences and breakdowns that break the traditional moulds bring additional flavours. From start to finish, the EP has an immersive atmosphere that creates strong images. During the composition process, our biggest musical influences were Gojira, Alcest and especially Opeth. The story was inspired by Studio Ghibli films. We highly recommend this EP for fans of progressive death metal and post-metal as well as fans of the bands mentioned above. And for all those who like a rough and authentic production, the EP was recorded, mixed and mastered by the band.”

Biography:
Ashes In The Fall is a Finnish progressive death metal/post-metal band. During the band’s 6 years of existence it has gone through numerous changes in personnel, with the current roster consisting of:

Touko Kaihola – drums, percussion, backing vocals
Samuel Routama – lead vocals, samples
Anton Valros – bass, backing vocals
Simon Valros – guitars
Jennifer Evans – keyboards, samples, backing vocals, percussion

The band takes influences from many different sources, with our biggest influences probably being Opeth, Mastodon, Insomnium, Ulver, Neurosis, Alcest and Gojira. We also take influences from music outside the metal genre, such as jazz, folk, progressive rock and hardcore punk to name a few.

After laying dormant for a long time, Ashes In The Fall have finally started to pick up their pace, with the EP “Where Serenity Prevails” being scheduled for release in this spring on Inverse Records. The EP’s lead single Dusk of Mankind will be released to the public on January 30th 2025. With the release of this new material, Ashes In The Fall will also be playing even more live shows, with an upcoming highlight in the band’s career being a performance at Tuska on the KVLT stage in June 2025.

Piper’s new single delicately moves through the concepts of time’s limits and boundlessness with senses wide open

Melodic atmospheric rock artist Piper from Finland releases this year both live album and new studio album. Now she presents the first single from the upcoming studio album!

The album’s title track and opening piece, A Bridge Across Time, asks “for more time”. It poses big questions across the blurred boundary of time. The song delicately moves through the concepts of time’s limits and boundlessness, with senses wide open. The steady influence of nature in the sound and the flickering, shifting tempo of time create the tensions in this piece.

Watch the lyric video

Listen to the single on music srevices (Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, Tidal etc.): https://push.fm/fl/piper-abat

Piper’s signature multifaceted style is also present in this single, just as it is throughout the whole album. The collaboration, familiar from the debut album What is the heart for, continues here, with Päivi Sihvonen composing and writing the lyrics, while Saku Anttila arranges and plays all other instruments.

In A Bridge Across Time, as in the rest of the album, there is a recognizable melancholic depth, but the music for this second full-length album has evolved, maturing into new forms along its journey. The rising start of the opening track, with its grand and “explosive” final beats, elevates the mood that unfolds throughout the album. The song leaves an open mood, creating space for the questions to linger. It invites the listener to receive the following tracks.

Finnish melodic death metal band Northvoid released Entrusted single & music video – new EP Ember Remains to be released in April

Finnish metal band Northvoid is set to release a new EP ‘Ember Remains’ on April 25th 2025 via Inverse Records. The second single Entrusted was released yesterday and music video is available here: https://youtu.be/wmQPiw4xAcw

Entrusted takes the listener to the depths of the mind, driven by heavy riffs and deep-rooted vocals. It is the slowest and heaviest song in the band’s output so far. The band’s guitarist and composer Markus Heikkinen says the following about the song:

“Entrusted is the band’s most melancholic, even oppressive song to date. Despite its anxiety, the song has become an important part of the band’s story.”

“I see that the lyrics of the song have different meanings, depending on the listener. They can describe men who, without speaking to each other, watch an autumn campfire somewhere in the woods. The lyrics also have a melancholic side, which I think fits well with the heavy guitar sound of the song,” continues the band’s drummer and lyricist Timo Korkalainen.

LISTEN to Entrusted on streaming services: https://push.fm/fl/northvoid-entrusted

Forged in North Karelia in January 2020, Northvoid delivers a musical assault rooted in the melodic death metal of the 90’s. With a bond forged in childhood, our members now channel the raw, untamed energy of the past & present into every note.

Our music is a fusion of melodic heaviness and groove, inspired by the harsh environment and wilderness of the north. Experience the power and versatility of our music, which broadly covers different elements of metal music, guided by the attitude of the frost-bitten north. Northvoid isn’t just music – it’s a journey into the heart of coldness and wilderness.

Join us and feel the fury!

German metal giant Lord of the Lost releases OPVS NOIR Vol. 1 on August 8th – Video for new single My Sanctuary out now

Lord of the Lost gives listeners a glimpse into the world that awaits them with their new studio album OPVS NOIR Vol. 1, which will be released on August 8th. The music video for the single My Sanctuary is now also released and can be watched here.

The upcoming studio album is the first part of the OPVS NOIR trilogy, in which the chart-topping band returns to heavier sounds – without forgetting gothic harmonies or the power of the orchestra.

At the same time, the song and the upcoming album are a kind of dance invitation to discover your own melancholic and dark inner self. The trilogy concludes the Blood & Glitter era in the band’s career, opening the door to the heart of darkness.

“We have 33 songs to choose from, of which My Sanctuary is a kind of gateway song that opens the door to the entire world of OPVS NOIR,” describes vocalist Chris Harms.

The upcoming album will also define what Lord of the Lost will be in 2025. Produced by Chris Harms, the album was recorded at Chameleon Studios in Hamburg, and while everything is new, it still sounds familiar.

Chris Harms gives us a preview of the upcoming album as follows:

“Darkness, melancholy, loneliness are all words that often have negative connotations and that we might associate with danger, sadness and loss. But darkness can also be safety, melancholy, the warm and sentimental feeling of our memories. Loneliness can also become silence, peace and a guide through the dark sides of our inner world, which so often move between what we emotionally classify as positive or negative. And this is all just the beginning of this three-part journey.”

OPVS NOIR Vol. 1 album contains the following songs:
1 Bazaar Bizarre
2 My Sanctuary
3 Light Can Only Shine In The Darkness (& Within Temptation)
4 I Will Die In It
5 Moonstruck (& Stimmgewalt)
6 Damage (feat. Whiplasher Bernadotte)
7 Ghosts (feat. Tina Guo)
8 Lords Of Fyre (& Feuerschwanz)
9 The Things We Do For Love
10 The Sadness In Everything (feat. Anna Maria Rose)
11 Dreams Are Never Alone

French alternative/atmospheric metal act Self-Discipline stream entire debut EP, ‘Otherness’ – Out now on CD & Digital

The wait is over. Following the debut track, “We Are One with the Universe”, Self-Discipline—a solo project blending Indian folk and metal influences, rooted in meditation and introspection—unveils a second offering, “A Call to Observe”. This powerful composition delves deeper into themes of self-awareness and spiritual connection.

The journey doesn’t stop here—Otherness, the highly anticipated EP, is available now via the Coups de Couteau label. With its focus on spirituality, inner freedom, and the practice of self-discipline, Otherness is a profound musical exploration.

Experience A Call to Observe now on Bandcamp and YouTube, and immerse yourself in the full Otherness EP.

Created in 2023, Self-Discipline is a solo project, a materialization of my musical influences and my life path, materialized by the production of a first EP, ‘otherness’ to be released on Coups de
Couteau label in 2025.

My main inspirations come from Indian folk (traditional songs and instruments: tumbi, santur, dhol, tablahs, harmonium, sitar, tampura, etc.), the heaviness and aggressiveness of metal and a radical change of mindset exploited by daily meditative practices initiated by a therapeutic process.

All combined, forms a music with many influences that conveys a message of hope, love and self-love. The notion of spirituality (Oriental philosophy), sometimes underlined by certain parallels with modern science, is omnipresent in the lyrics addressing themes such as the identification of our emancipatory and liberating values, self-discipline, self-knowledgeor even inner
freedom.

Accessing these different states of consciousness leads to betterknowing oneself, overcoming one’s own limitations and cultivating an inner discipline to achieve greater clarity of mind.

Dark Metal Force Nullor Presents “Maladjusted” Music Video

Alternative dark metal project Nullor proudly presents the official music video for “Maladjusted,” a standout track from their latest album, Finalform, available now via Wormholedeath.

“Maladjusted” is a visceral anthem that cuts straight to the heart of societal decay. The track explores themes of power, greed, and corruption, painting a stark picture of betrayal and disillusionment. With its dark, brooding energy and thought-provoking lyricism, the song holds a mirror to humanity’s flaws, challenging listeners to confront the uncomfortable truths lurking in the shadows.

Nullor’s bold and unflinching approach makes “Maladjusted” an essential listen for fans of alternative and dark metal. This track isn’t just music—it’s a powerful statement, urging you to reflect, question, and rise above.

Finalform is a raw reflection of Nullor’s musical evolution, born from past disappointments and a resolute DIY spirit. Breaking away from the need for a full band, Nullor embraced the challenge of creating a multi-dimensional music solo. Drawing on influences like Helmet, Meshuggah, The Cure, and Faith No More, the album blends complex polyrhythms with intense grooves for a sound that’s both heavy and unpredictable. Lyrically, Finalform explores personal themes of disaster, resilience, and creative defiance—an unfiltered journey into an artist’s newfound voice.

LOUD AS HELL Open Air Festival Announces 2025 Lineup w/ REVOCATION, FIRST FRAGMENT, FILTH, INSURRECTION, GORGATRON, OPAL IN SKY and more

From the barren expanse of sculpted sandstone, wind-carved hoodoos, and the vast canyons of Alberta, Canada’s badlands, one of the country’s loudest decibel-breaking extreme music events, LOUD AS HELL OPEN AIR FESTIVAL announces its 2025 lineup with REVOCATION, FIRST FRAGMENT, FILTH, INSURRECTION, GORGATRON, OPAL IN SKY and more!

Hosted in Drumheller, AB from August 1st to 3rd at the Dinosaurs Down Stampede, LAH showcases the best up-and-coming Canadian and international talent to roar through the country’s largest dinosaur fossil grounds.

This year’s 13th annual festivities will witness technical death metal masters Revocation headline the Sunday, August 3rd lineup. The band unveiled their latest 2025 single and music video “Confines of Infinity,” featuring brutal guest vocals from Cattle Decapitation’s Travis Ryan. The single also marks the debut of a new Revocation lineup that sees vocalist and guitarist Dave Davidson joined by drummer Ash Pearson–who has been in the band since 2015–bassist Alex Weber and guitarist Harry Lannon. Revocation formed in 2006, and their self-released debut, Empire of the Obscene, came out in 2008. Since then, they’ve released seven critically acclaimed albums and have toured the world, bringing their technically charged, high-energy extreme metal to rabid fans in North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. Music Video – Confines of Infinity (ft. Travis Ryan of Cattle Decapitation) – https://youtu.be/h6Nez7ikOm4

Also on the Sunday lineup will be Insurrection, the powerhouse metal band from Gatineau, Quebec, Canada. Formed over 20 years ago (2003), the band is known for its intense and energetic performances. Their sound is a unique twist of groovy death metal mixed with a healthy dose of thrash energy. The band has released several albums, including “Prologue” (2008), “Fracture” (2010), “Prototype” (2013), “Extraction” (2017), and “Obsolescence” (2024) (Bam Co. Heavy). Their music often addresses social and political themes through bilingual lyrics in both English and French. The band has gained a notable reputation on stage throughout Canada with tours covering coast to coast, including performances at festivals such as Montebello Rockfest, Trois-Rivières Metalfest, and Decimate Metalfest. Music Video – The Gathering – https://youtu.be/OloWe37IY04

Headlining Saturday, Aug 2nd, Montreal, QC’s First Fragment will display their virtuosity and demonstrate why they are so beloved globally for their Neoclassical/Technical Extreme Metal. The band broke ground with their debut EP “The Afterthought Ecstasy” (2010). Their latest two albums “Dasein” (2016), “Gloire éternelle(2021), and the latest instrumental compilation record “Le Recueuil Des Âges” (2024) have been released on Unique Leader Records. Music Video – Pantheum – https://youtu.be/4mU_qLoa3Ds

Saturday will also feature LAH alumni Gorgatron, guttural Death Metal out of Fargo, North Dakota. Their sound is based on a “love of the riff” approach to writing and is rooted in the old-school stylings of Death Metal and Thrash. They have honed their style and work ethic with rigorous DIY tours across the States, Europe, Canada, and Mexico. They have a slew of records under their belts with their latest “Sentience Revoked” (2024) (Redefining Darkness Records) and just this past January they unleashed a digital EP “Live From the Basement”. It was originally set to be released on Adult Swim’s ‘Fish Center Live’ in 2020, but was shelved due to Adult Swim shutting down their livestream division that same year. Music Video – Absorbency – https://youtu.be/oZ_0uqAh5fc

The festival’s first day on Friday, Aug 1st will be headlined by hip-hop-influenced deathcore gutter gang Filth out of North Carolina. They dropped the next chapter in their discography, Southern Hostility, in April 2024. Music Video – Opp Stoppers – https://youtu.be/DUl3DPXdCBY

Also on Friday are Vancouver, BC’s Opal in Sky, twin brothers Tyson and Dylon Opalinsky. They share a deep passion for music and its limitless possibilities. Their music reflects their shared values and beliefs. They believe that music has the power to heal, uplift, and bring people together. They are committed to creating meaningful and enjoyable music, and their unique sound is a fusion of different styles and influences. They released their debut album, “Dream Shift,” in July 2024. Music Video – Those Who Wait – https://youtu.be/w6KmSMB2zGs

With a lineup featuring over 40 bands from across Canada, the USA, and Mexico, traveling the furthest from Europe is Vienna, Austria’s Hog Meets Frog, a band fans don’t want to miss. The trio is renowned for their eccentricity and boundary-pushing music that blends prog, funk, and metal. Claymation Video – of snakes ‘n’ moles ‘n’ bulls ‘n’ dough – https://youtu.be/-ijNMjMDk6M

Other highlights for this year’s open-air are Toronto’s Beguiler, champions of last year’s 2024 Wacken Metal Battle Canada; the slamming deathcore of Arizona’s Gore Pig; Mexico’s Spit On Your Grave, showcasing their powerful, deep growls, blast beats, slam riffs, and heavy breakdowns, all infused with a melodic touch; and Vancouver’s Thirteen Goats, with their signature blend of infernal riffs, huge hooks, and uniquely theatrical songwriting.

SIEGE PERILOUS Launches Kickstarter For Concept Album “Becoming the Dragon” ft. Guests Fabio Lione and Kristin Starkey

Unveiling their monumental musical odyssey and EP “Creation’s Call” in August 2024, Denver’s fantasy power metal warriors Siege Perilous unveil plans for their first full-length album.

Entitled “Becoming the Dragon,” the album is the band’s biggest and most ambitious work yet—a cinematic, narrative journey set in a world of warriors, dragons, and destiny. To help Siege Perilous unleash this epic power metal story, the band enlisted two of the most epic voices in the genre: Fabio Lione (Angra, ex-Rhapsody of Fire), a legendary power metal voice, and Kristin Starkey (Twilight Force, Temperance), the powerful contralto who brings her operatic touch to the tale.

A single narrative power metal opera from start to finish, “Becoming the Dragon” is centered around the Child of Prophecy, the hero who slays the dragon, played by Fabio Lione, but then comes to question whether he is truly a hero or simply a pawn of an ancient prophecy. After a journey of self-discovery that takes him across a vast fantasy world he, aided by the mystic Sorceress (Kristin Starkey), takes on the forces of destiny itself to forge a new future.

To bring this concept record to life, Siege Perilous is using Kickstarter and, once again, enlisting the help of power metal fans.

Vocalist Shaughnessy McDaniel comments:

“After the incredible reception we received for ‘Creation’s Call’, we couldn’t wait to bring people what they had been asking for, a full-length album. We are so excited and blown away that we get to work with the legendary Fabio Lione and the absurdly talented Kristin Starkey to bring this fun yet meaningful fantasy story to life, and Kickstarter is such a great way to help an up-and-coming band like Siege Perilous maximize this opportunity. The dream for this album is big! And while we are self-funding about half of it, we need some help to bring this full epic vision to life and to reach its full potential. Heroes of power! Warriors of metal! Keepers of the flame! Join us on an epic quest!”

Check out the exclusive rewards you can receive with your Kickstarter pledges, from Vinyl to classic rewards like CDs, t-shirts, and stickers to a few fun experiences by Siege Perilous.

“If you’ve ever wanted a power metal anthem written about your DnD Campaign, a favorite fantasy story, or a historical epic, now is your opportunity to bring those stories to life with a custom hand-crafted power metal track. This and many other cool rewards can be yours and 100% of the profits from this campaign will go into the production and promotion of “Becoming the Dragon.” We have many stretch goals including enhancing our vinyl, filming great music videos, and more! Thank you for contributing and helping us summon this fantasy into being. Share the campaign, spread the word and together we will continue to keep the dream of heavy metal burning bright!” adds McDaniel.

Aussie Heavy/Thrash Metallers Decimator Drops Double Single “Warriors”

Australian heavy metal titans Decimator are set to blast through the metal landscape with their electrifying double A-side single “Warriors”, a thunderous homage to historical storytelling that captures the raw essence of classic metal tradition.

Paying tribute to the legendary 7-inch single format of the 70s and 80s, Decimator delivers two meticulously crafted tracks that transport listeners through time and battlefield: “Warriors” and “Wolf of the Plains”. This is not just a musical release; it’s a historical odyssey carved in sonic steel.

“Warriors” emerges as the band’s primordial creation, a track refined through years of musical evolution, unveiling the true story of the Knights Templar without mythological embellishment. Since their very first live performance, this song has been a cornerstone of Decimator’s explosive stage presence.

Complementing “Warriors” is “Wolf of the Plains”, an epic musical journey through the life of Genghis Khan. Inspired by Conn Iggulden’s historical narratives and tipping a respectful hat to Iron Maiden’s legendary storytelling, the track promises to be a metal history lesson unlike any other.

Engineered at The Confectionery in Newtown and mixed by Josh Szafranski of STE Studios, the single represents the band’s commitment to authentic, powerful metal.

Building on their 2024 release “Til the Enemies are Gone”, Decimator continues to forge a unique path in heavy metal. Their music transcends traditional boundaries, exploring historical figures, environmental challenges, and human struggles with unflinching intensity.

The band is already preparing for future releases, with plans for another conceptual double single exploring the complexities of the modern world.
