Finnish thrash metaller Nervebreak released the third single from their upcoming EP

Formed in 2020, Nervebreak caught the attention of the metal community with the release of their “Desperate Measures” EP in 2022 and a performance at Tuska the following summer. The band’s production mixes elements of old-school thrash metal, groove metal and funk.

The band is currently preparing for their “Hopeless Society” EP, which will be released on March 7th, and has so far released the singles “Better Off” and “Dead End”. The EP’s third single, “Give Me a Break”, represents Nervebreak’s grooviest and most aggressive side. The song starts with a fiercely forward-pedaling riff, around which the entire song is built.

“One day I picked up my guitar and the intro riff was the first thing that came out of the guitar. The riff is playful and a very groovy Nervebreak piece was built on it!”, guitarist Lassi Kuusela commented.

“Give Me a Break” was recorded together with the band’s regular recording and mixing engineer Joel Pöllänen. Mikko Herranen was responsible for the mastering.

The lyrics of the song are the domain of the band’s soloist. Nervebreak’s singer Santeri Salmela says that the inspiration for the song arose after a poorly played gig.

“We recently played a gig with my previous band absolutely horribly and, of course, people patted us on the back after the gig to praise the performance. Of course, everyone meant well, but I just thought in my head, ‘give me a break’. This inspired me to write the lyrics for the song – a little tongue in cheek, of course.”

Nervebreak is:
Santeri Salmela – vocals
Lassi Kuusela – guitar
Fernando Arriaga – bass
Aki Kuokkanen – drums

The Finnish melancholic metal band Garden of Stone have released their debut album ‘The Grave Mistake’ on January 10th 2025 via Inverse Records.

LISTEN to the Grave Mistake album on streaming services: https://push.fm/fl/gos-album

Garden of Stone’s debut album, “The Grave Mistake”, paints a musical landscape filled with savage riffs and aggression juxtaposed with mesmerizingly haunting melodies and ballads. An amalgamation of death metal and melodic rock, “The Grave Mistake” is a testament to Garden of Stone’s genre-blending style of music, proving that the band is unafraid of branching out of their comfort zone while still remaining true to their roots.

Lyrically the album portrays a dystopian future ravaged by war, where each song represents a different scene witnessed by the main character as they travel across a desolate wasteland. The listener is granted access to a deep dive into the human psyche, as hopelessness, despair and insanity slowly consume the final glimmers of light in the world, embracing the inevitable void.

Soon after, drummer Tapio Haverinen joined to keep the rhythm department in check. The group was completed when bassist Kalle Hänninen joined to govern the lowest frequencies.

Garden of Stone published their debut EP, Tides of Decay, in February of 2024. The band is showing no signs of slowing down, as they are gearing up to release an LP in early 2025 after a series of singles.

Peruvian Metal band Chaska released a stunning music video ‘Winter Night Heights’ edited by Tom Flynn

Peruvian metal band Chaska released a new music video ‘Winter Night Heights’ edited by Tom Flynn (Lamb Of God, Suffocation, I Prevail, Nile). The track is taken from ‘Rites of June’ EP which was released via Inverse Records.

WATCH Winter Night Heights music video: https://youtu.be/36WHFCMFyeI

The band comments
“The music video for the song Winter Night Heights, besides the images of the band performing, features some images from the film La Luz en el Cerro (The Light on the Hill) provided by its director Ricardo Velarde and Caudal Films. This video was edited by Tom Flynn, who has worked with bands such as Lamb Of God, Suffocation, I Prevail, Buckcherry, Nile, As I Lay Dying, etc. Visually, we wanted to present a video with some dynamics and darkness, in addition to some elements such as mystery, cold and night, which surround the characters and landscapes.

Initially, Rites of June was only going to feature three songs, which are: Winter Night Heights, Sweet Lover and Imperio Caído. The first song was composed especially for the film La Luz en el Cerro (The Light on the Hill) (2016), and the other two songs appeared on the EP Chaska (2003). These three songs were totally re-recorded to be included on this new EP. Then, along the way, the idea of recording the song Possession (Bad English cover) arose, perhaps as a bonus track, since EPs usually include this type of material as surprises or gifts. Finally, to make the EP more solid, we decided to include the live session versions of the songs Nymph of the Lake and Bicolour Cannibalism, previously featured on the album Pururauca (2009). So, Rites of June represents, in some way, the different phases or stages of the band over time. We think this EP is a good introduction for people who don’t know us or have never heard us before.”

Brian Kingsland (NILE, Imperishable, Enthean) Releases Classical / Spanish Guitar Album “Translation”

Known for his role in extreme metal bands such as NILE, Imperishable, and Enthean, composer /guitarist and vocalist Brian Kingsland is sharing his other passion in music, with his debut classical / Spanish guitar album entitled “Translation” due out on January 8, 2025.

Kingsland‘s musical taste has always been wide from his pursuit of extreme metal to learning blues licks, and jazz theory, to impossible techniques. Classical guitar is another evolution in his musical journey. Beginning private classical studies in the early 2000s, Kingsland performed live many times, but never recorded any of the material. After many years of making heavy metal records, he felt it was time to reinvest in his classical pursuits. Performing compositions from some of his favorite composers Francisco Tarrega, Agustín Barrios Mangoré, Antonio Lauro, Andrés Segovia, Heitor Villa-Lobos, and Isaac Albéniz, the 11-track tribute can be best described as a beautiful and poetic of musical interpretation of some of the world’s greatest classical guitarists.

“I have always been attracted to Spanish and South American classical guitar music. I find it rhythmically diverse and harmonically rich. It has unique challenges that deviate from the traditional classical guitar. I think guitar and music fans alike will enjoy hearing another side of my musical expression,” adds Kingsland.

With classical music, particularly solo performances, it is up to the performer to interpret their vision of the song. Although he or she may not be the author, they’re the vessel for the music to be expressed. Thus, Kingsland believes it is a collaboration, and with “Translation” he wants listeners to join him on a journey through Spain and South America to appreciate the genius of these composers, and be enveloped in these wonderful masterpieces.

UK’s SERPENTYNE Enchant Fans w/ First Single “Prophetess of Dreams” Off New Album “Tales From The Dark” Out February 2025

Serpentyne enchants fans with “Prophetess of Dreams”, the first single from their highly anticipated album “Tales from the Dark” out February 2025. This hard-hitting, fast-paced track is the album’s powerful introduction, showcasing the darker and fiercer side of the band’s evolving sound.

Opening with a “barrage of bullet-like guitar riffs,” as described by the band, “Prophetess of Dreams” immediately sets an intense tone. The song seamlessly combines modern, aggressive metal elements with the symphonic and choral layers that define Serpentyne’s music. Guitarist Lee Willmer utilizes an 8-string guitar to create unprecedented depth and heaviness, while the dual vocals of Maggiebeth Sand and Nigel Middleton add dramatic intensity.

Lyrically, the track delves into humanity’s timeless desire to uncover destiny. The prophetess, a central figure in the song, unveils what lies ahead with lines like, “Tell my fortune today, oracle of answers, will my luck fade away, or is it here to stay?”. This thematic depth, coupled with the band’s dynamic instrumentation, delivers a cinematic and immersive experience.

“Prophetess of Dreams” showcases a symphonic journey that bridges the grandiose with the aggressive. The single’s blend of orchestral arrangements, relentless rhythms, and evocative storytelling sets the stage for the full release of “Tales from the Dark” later this year.

Rioghan released the last single ‘Skin’, taken from the upcoming second studio album Kept

Finnish progressive metal band Rioghan is set to release the second studio album ‘Kept’ on February 14th 2025 via Inverse Records. The fourth single ‘Skin’ was released yesterday and it’s available on all essential streaming services: https://push.fm/fl/rioghan-skin

Rioghan comments:

About the single:
‘Skin’ is a story of a very still and short moment in time, which yet holds a life altering experience. It tells about the art of keeping up a mask and a façade, while feeling incredibly shattered and tumultuous inside. Our goal was to also capture this story to the music, keeping it very bare and fragile until the veil lifts for a moment, and gets tied back in the very end.

About the upcoming album release & tour
This last single before the album release brings up all kinds of excitement, getting the finishing touches to all materials and trying to figure out what I might’ve forgot.. And also a very strict training season for the live shows to come! It’s been a handful to get all the new songs in order for the live set, but of course so much fun!”

The music video of first single ‘Edge’ can be seen here: https://youtu.be/SYz0locEGn4

The music video of second single ‘Hands’ available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_-4BO6FTB8

BIOGRAPHY
The rising star of modern Finnish metal Rioghan has made an unforgettable expression to the metal scene with their multi-layered musical expression full of surprises. Strikingly beautiful yet violent imagery hand in hand with the music creates an otherworldly experience, easy to fall in love with.

Rioghan’s music is modern metal with progressive twist – ranging from melodic death metal moments to floating dark pop elements, while ethereal gothic darkness walks right beside you all the way.

Based in 2019 around singer-poetess Rioghan Darcy, the band has gained international attention from their very first EP Blackened Sky. Positive remarks grew even heavier with their debut album Different Kinds Of Losses, made in collaboration with Jonas Renkse (Katatonia) and Einar Solberg (Leprous).

The band consists of singer Rioghan Darcy, guitarist Teemu Liekkala (Red Eleven), guitarist Tero Luukkonen (Red Eleven), bassist Antti Varjanne (Joviac, Time Primer), and drummer Valtteri Revonkorpi (Leverage).

Rioghan’s live production consists of hardcore professionals, and every moment is thought through from lights to stage presence. Dedicatedly practiced show was presented to fans in autumn 2024, when Rioghan toured Finland with Wheel in Olympia, Tampere; Sawohouse UG, Kuopio; On The Rocks, Helsinki; Lutakko, Jyväskylä; Finlandia-klubi, Lahti and 45Special, Oulu.

The crowd’s warm welcome with the successful tour ensured Rioghan their place among the future exports to be reckoned with.

Rioghan’s second full length album Kept will be released February 14th 2025.

Polish Legendary VADER Issue 2024 Recap + Reveal Plans for 2025: New EP, Reissue of “Black To The Blind” and Recording New Full-Length Album in Autumn

Polish Death Metal Legends VADER have posted on their Facebook Page wrapping up 2024 and revealing some predictions for 2025, which has just begun. In fact, the new year will also be full of news for the death metal band, which will release the EP “Humanihility” in spring, while in autumn 2025 they will begin recording for the new full-length album. Also planned for this year, are the reissue of the classic “Black To The Blind”, and the summer tour to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the album “Litany”, which for the occasion will be performed live in its entirety.

Vader stated:
“The year 2024 is coming to an end. How was it for the band? As usual, it was very busy. We continued the 40th anniversary of Vader on tours in the USA/Canada and Europe. We played a few festivals in the summer – including Jarocin after 30 years of absence! At the end of August we returned to Grindstone Studio to record brand new material for an EP. We ended the year with the “Freezing Hell” tour, which went around the Baltic Sea. 2024 is also another year played with Michal Andrzejczyk behind the drums. A few months ago, Michał also joined the happy endorsers of TAMA drums.

And what about plans for 2025? The new year will be even more intense. First of all, this spring will see the release of the completely new EP “Humanihility” since the release of “Solitude In Madness” in 2020, as well as the long-awaited reissue of the classic album “Black To The Blind” from 1997 in a new cover with the original cover by Jacek Wiśniewski. Both titles will be released by Nuclear Blast. The recording session for the next full length Vader album will also start in the fall of 2025! Next year will also be Vader’s return to the stages of summer festivals. And we will appear at 20 of them. 2025 will also be the 25th anniversary of the release of the album “Litany”. Therefore, in the summer season, you will be able to hear the entire album as part of a concert set. Most of the songs from this classic album for the band have not been played since its premiere in 2000, and some have never been played. So 2025 will be absolutely explosive and truly vaderish \m/ And we already INVITE you ALL !!! Expect our arrival under the banner of Massive Music \m/”

On upcoming EP, Vader issued the studio update:
“Yesterday in “Spiderclass” studio in Wroclaw we were working on leads to the upcoming NEW Vader EP “Humanihility” for Nuclear Blast.  Mauser works on His part in home studio in UK too. This was a last step before final mix&master of the recording. Scott Atkins should finish the production in Grindstone Studio by middle of January. More details coming soon….”

Finnish deathgrinders Cannibal Accident have released a new music video for ‘Darken The Attic’

Finnish Deathgrind band Cannibal Accident is set to release their fifth studio album ‘Disgust’ on February 28th 2025 via Inverse Records.

The music video for Darken The Attic has been released on January 7th and it’s available here.

Vocalist Kurwa Doktor comments the lyrics:

” “Darken The Attic” tells about the horrors of delirium tremens after sacrificing your mind, body and soul to excessive amounts of alcohol for so many years you have already lost the count.”

Jondom (Bass) comments music and video:
“Musically “Darken The Attic” is quite far from our comfort zone with dissonant riffs which are like made to create feelings of pure anxiety for the listener. Song is one of “weirdos” of coming “Disgust”-album and goal was to highlight how guitar and bass has own place and space in our music even these two instruments aren’t necessarily always playing same kind of riff, part or even notes in a song. This “chaotic harmony” can be heard particularly in this song. Idea for the video came also partly because of the nature of the song. Quick clips of grotesque and graphic content forced to listeners eye receptors are just like made to underline the musical feeling and lyrical theme of the song.”

French metal guitarist Baptiste Brun to release new single “Beyond the light”

French metal guitarist Baptiste Brun has just dropped a new single, “Beyond The Light”, following his debut solo album from two and a half years ago.

This track, along with the recently released “Ode for the Soul” will be featured on his upcoming sophomore album,Elevatio”, set for release on January 10th, 2025.

Available in both physical and digital formats, the album promises to showcase Baptiste’s evolving sound and musical depth.

During this time, he had a revelation about eight-string guitars, which became a hallmark of his musical identity. Baptiste then decided to evolve as a solo artist, creating his first instrumental album “Origin,” an ambitious and experimental work that blends his diverse musical influences, all dominated by his guitar playing. The album received very positive feedback, allowing him to embark on a series of concerts and gain sponsorship from major brands like Ibanez and Savarez.

Always eager to develop his music, he began working on a second conceptual album, isolating himself for several months to compose and record. He, once again played nearly all the instruments. This new album, titled “Elevatio,” explores the theme of transformation in the face of surrounding elements and the challenges one may encounter.

Progressive Collective LUNAR Unveils Emotional Lyric Video “Spring In My Step” Off New Album “Tempora Mutantur”

USA’s progressive metal outfit Lunar is set to release the lyric video for “Spring In My Step” to offer listeners another captivating glimpse into their upcoming concept album “Tempora Mutantur”, slated for release at the end of January 2025. The new release continues the band’s exploration of seasonal metaphors and personal transformation, promising a musical journey that blends intricate progressive metal with deeply introspective storytelling. Drummer Alex Bosson comments on the single:

“One of my personal favorite songs on the album. This song is more upbeat and about the good times we feel revitalized. When you’ve made it through a rough patch in your life and realize you’ve come out the other side. This song has some really fun moments musically and, I think, is one of the more “proggy” songs on this record.”

One of the more upbeat songs on the album, “Spring In My Step” delivers an awesome main riff and continues with positive melodies throughout. The track embodies the band’s approach to songwriting—creating music that is both technically complex and emotionally accessible, inviting listeners to find their own meanings within the layers of sound and lyrical metaphor.

The lyric video, along with the rest of the album, offers an emotional listening experience. Lots of ups and downs musically and lyrically dealing with the passing of time and the effects it has on us physically and mentally. Lunar is recommended for fans of Opeth, Caligula’s Horse, and Haken.

Watch and listen to “Spring In My Step” at the following links:

YouTube – https://youtu.be/mtOhnwOpK_0

Spotify – https://spoti.fi/3W3wzA7

Founded by drummer Alex Bosson (Helion Prime, Planeswalker) and Ryan Erwin who passed away in 2018, LUNAR continues in his memory. This fourth full-length “Tempora Mutantur” follows 2023’s “The Illusionist” and features a fresh lineup with the addition of guitarists Carlos Alvarez and Connor McCray (Vis Mystica) along with keyboardist Anthony Stahl plus album guests Wayne Ingram (Wildrun), Joe Gullace (Thank You Scientist) and Sam Vallen (Caligula’s Horse).

A collaboration of musical minds, and with anything LUNAR does; “Tempora Mutantur” is an emotional thematic listening experience with ups and downs musically and lyrically dealing with the passing of time and the effects it has on us physically and mentally.

“This album deals with something everyone can relate to and no one can escape: the passing of time. We get older, our perspective changes, and we gain some things, and lose others… sometimes the things and ones we love. And we struggle and fight along the way. This album deals with some of the highs and lows we deal with along this journey we all share. Hopefully, the fans will be able to resonate with it and find some solace and aid in their own experiences of time passing. I believe the songwriting has gotten stronger over the years. I think the songs are a bit more well-structured. But I think the overall sound of the band has remained pretty consistent over the years. The music is very “prog,” so it’s been diverse I think from day 1. Probably even more so now than it was at first.” adds Bosson.

Recommended for fans of Opeth, Caligula’s Horse, Haken, Tool, and Porcupine Tree, LUNAR’s “Tempora Mutantur” is due out January 31, 2025, from Saibot Reigns Records.
