After a hiatus of seven years Dutch prog metallers Textures return in excellent shape to deliver a modern revitalized sonic vision perfectly embodied by the eclectic new album “Genotype”.
The crispy guitar sound of “At the Edge of Winter” guides you through a majestic ensemble of vitriolic rhythmic blasts and cathartic atmospheric waves naturally unfolding around a flamboyant duet featuring guest vocalist Charlotte Wessels.
“Measuring the Heavens” offers an ideal dosage of technical guitar acrobatics and heavily distorted progressions surrounded by immersive atmospheric arrangements and epic accents.

Critically acclaimed British progressive alternative rockers The Pineapple Thief have reached a significant milestone with the release of the 13th full length “Versions Of The Truth” which showcases stellar musicianship and introspective themes. 

The title track begins with dreamy atmospheric nuances which continue to glow as the guitar melodies add soothing vibes yet the robust rhythmic section will eventually acquire heavier and slightly darker tonalities. 

“Break It All” revolves around a groovy riffage which naturally generates an overload of catchy dynamics while the luminous vocal delivery and the atmospheric synths can create a quite surreal sonic realm. 

“Demons” might have a rather laid back rhythm enhanced by the bittersweet feelings expressed by the vocal performance but guitars and synths can often craft some complex passages in the midst of exotic vibes and a bright atmosphere. 

Undoubtedly the strength of “Leave Me Be” comes from the vibrant rhythmic crescendos and the skillful guitar work that can add intriguing melodic accents embellished by shimmering atmospheric arrangements. 

Throughout “Our Mire” the whole instrumentation ensures a series of engaging rhythmic patterns while the vivid guitar melodies and the magical keyboards perfectly complement the emotional nature of the vocals. 

Everything feels like a daydream on “The Game” as the band emphasizes the expression of genuine emotions and inevitably a profound melancholia will dominate the warm melodies and the contemplative atmospheric layers. 

With “Versions Of The Truth” The Pineapple Thief will definitely impress the listeners and satisfy the faithful fans with an intricate songwriting that aims to explore a wide spectrum of emotions keeping alive the spirit of prog rock. 

Tesseract is back with their 4th full length album. It’s pretty short, but is packed with high quality music. They blend elements from all of their previous albums on this one, and add some new elements as well.

“Luminary” opens the album. It comes in very “In your face,” but then quickly goes into a calm verse with some cool syncopation. There’s some interesting play happening with the chord progressions. The chorus is pretty big sounding and very easy to get stuck in your head. This song is pretty “to the point,” thus making it a good way to open the album.

“King” has a pretty nice opening groove with some very cool vocal arrangements. There’s the signature Tesseract clean atmospheric stuff happening in here as well. You really get a little bit of everything in this song. Even a little bit of harsh vocals that fit perfectly.

“Orbital” is very different for this band. It’s for the most part a short post rock feeling song. It sounds huge and has a very beautiful musical theme. I really hope they add more of this into their music on future albums.

“Juno” opens powerfully, but then goes into an awesome groove. The verse is awesome! You’ll see what I mean. There is a change that comes up later with some excellent vocals melodies, creating a really nice atmosphere, while the drums go crazy. This is one of my favorite tracks.

“Beneath My Skin/Mirror Image”… This song clocks in at 11:21. Just listen to it. It’s well worth your time.
