Awake Again, who performed at Rockfest Finland last summer, have been on a great rise in their career for some time now, and the band has been growing their fan base abroad, especially through social media. The band, which forges modern alternative metal with its own unique style, is at the forefront of their new Violins single, which also bundles The Dream That Never Dies EP.
The new song is an adrenaline-filled, fast-paced combination of modern alt metal and industrial elements. The chaotic atmosphere is fueled by synths and catchy melodies that act as cherries on top of an explosive cake. The lyrical theme of the song is left to the listener’s interpretation, as the first words of the song state “What do you think this song is about?”
The idea for the song came about a year earlier, when the speed of the guitar playthrough video for the song PARAS!TE was accidentally changed to 0.75 times.
“We realized that this would give us a completely different groove that could work with the same type of riff. With a lot of math from vocational school, I calculated that a tempo of 0.75 times would be 175 bpm and saved the project on my computer. A year later, I sat with my guitar on my lap at a distance learning lecture at the university, started to play around with the riff and it perfectly matched the tempo I had found earlier. It quickly had industrial-inspired synth sounds and the mood of the song began to take shape,” singer Matti Österman recalls.
The song was finalized together with the entire band. For the first time in a long time, external production help was also involved: Awake Again’s trusted mixer Rami Nykänen produced the song together with Österman and was responsible for mixing and mastering.
As the final single from The Dream That Never Dies EP, violins complements its musically diverse content. The EP featured previously released singles: the chaotic marine adventure shitwreck, the heavy and darkly growling soil and the massive modern stadium rock river. The EP will later be released in physical edition together with the previously released A Promise of Better Days EP.
“While working on this EP, the feeling grew that we have more clearly found our own sound, which also seems to resonate with a larger audience. The guidelines are now clear for our next album, which we have already started working on,” reveals bassist Ville “Ukkometso” Loukola.
Awake Again, who have been rocking their live shows with wild energy, will next be seen at a gig at Kerubi in Joensuu on December 19th. IKINÄ and Balance Breach will also be performing during the evening.
